  • Introduction to marine and coastal environment management: (a) causes of environmental crisis, (b) definition – necessity of environmental management – sustainable development, (c) types, planning, technical-management concepts and management evolution, (d) management studies (examples).
  • Tools applied in management according to institutional, technological, financial, social and environmental framework (e.g. DPSIR model).
  • Contemporary management approaches and stages of integrated management plans.
  • Integrated and holistic approach (through ecosystem based approach, NEXUS), or in the Integrative Methodological Framework for coastal, river basin and aquifer management (IMF).
  • Management strategies of marine protected areas (Marine Network of NATURA 2000 areas).
  • Endangered species classes.
  • Management of coasts, coastal waters, coastal wetlands and deltaic/estuarine systems.
  • Remediation measures, monitoring alternatives, management plans.
  • Management of swimming areas (blue flag coasts).
  • Institutional framework for the protection – management – exploitation of the marine/coastal environment (International Conventions, Greek and European legislation).
